Gym Etiquette at FLAC: The Little Things That Make a Big Difference

As the seasons change and we head into the colder months, more of our time naturally moves indoors. That means our fitness floor, locker rooms, courts, and common areas become even more important parts of the FLAC experience.

At Four Lakes Athletic Club, we take pride in offering a clean, well-maintained, welcoming environment for our members. Maintaining that experience is a shared responsibility.

Gym etiquette isn't about a long list of rules. It's about being mindful of the people around you, taking pride in your club, and leaving shared spaces ready for the next member.

Here are a few simple reminders that help keep FLAC at its best.

Keep Personal Belongings in the Locker Room

The fitness floor is for working out. Please use the locker rooms and lockers for coats, bags, extra shoes, and other personal belongings.

Keeping personal items off the fitness floor helps maintain clear walkways, reduces tripping hazards, and keeps the workout environment looking clean and organized.

As we move into winter, this becomes especially important as coats, boots, gloves, and additional layers make their way into the club.

Bring Indoor Gym Shoes

Wisconsin weather brings its share of rain, snow, salt, and slush. One of the easiest ways to help protect our fitness floor and equipment is to bring a designated pair of indoor gym shoes.

Changing shoes before your workout helps reduce the amount of water, salt, and debris tracked throughout the facility. It also helps protect the floors and creates a cleaner experience for everyone.

Consider keeping a dedicated pair of training shoes in your gym bag during the winter months.

Leave Equipment Ready for the Next Member

A quick wipe-down is part of being a considerate gym member.

Grab a towel and sanitizer and wipe down equipment after use. Whether you're finishing a strength workout, spending time on the cardio floor, or using a machine, taking a moment to clean it leaves the equipment ready for the next person.

It's a small courtesy that makes a big difference in a shared fitness environment.

Keep the Fitness Floor Clear

Please be mindful of where you place belongings and equipment while you work out.

Machine areas and walkways should remain clear so members can safely move throughout the fitness floor. The bench near the elevator is intended for sitting, not storage, and the area around the elevator should remain open.

These details help the club feel organized and comfortable, particularly during busy times.

Re-Rack Your Equipment and Share the Space

When you're finished with weights, dumbbells, or other equipment, return everything to its proper location.

And when you're using a popular piece of equipment, be mindful of other members who may be waiting. Sharing equipment and allowing others to work in when appropriate helps everyone make the most of their time at FLAC.

Please also remember that weights should not be dropped or intentionally slammed. Controlled movements help protect the equipment, floors, and members working nearby.

See Something That Needs Attention? Tell Us.

Our team works hard to keep the club operating at a high standard, but members are often the first to notice when something needs attention.

If you see damaged equipment that has not already been clearly marked or taken out of service, please let a staff member know.

A quick conversation with our team can help us address an issue before it becomes a larger one.

Be Considerate With Group Fitness Reservations

Our group fitness classes offer a great way to stay motivated, try something different, and connect with other members.

With class capacities in place, we encourage members to pre-register through the FLAC app.

If your plans change, please take a moment to unregister.

That simple step can open a spot for another member who would like to participate and helps our instructors prepare for the class ahead.

A Shared Space Comes With Shared Responsibility

The FLAC experience is about more than having access to equipment and amenities. It's about having a place where members can come to work out, connect, and feel comfortable doing it.

Keeping that experience strong doesn't require anything complicated.

Bring your indoor shoes. Keep your belongings in the locker room. Wipe down your equipment. Re-rack your weights. Keep walkways clear. Share equipment. Let our team know when something needs attention. And be thoughtful about the space you're sharing with your fellow members.

These small habits are part of what keeps Four Lakes Athletic Club feeling like a club rather than simply a place to work out.

Thank you for taking pride in FLAC and doing your part to keep our club clean, organized, respectful, and welcoming throughout the year.
