End of September Check-In: What Are You Changing or Sticking With for October?

September is wrapping up - which makes it the perfect time to pause, check in with yourself, and look ahead.

What worked for you this month? What didn’t? And what are you changing or sticking with for October?

You don’t need to completely reinvent your routine every few weeks. Sometimes the best progress comes from recognizing what’s working and continuing to build on it. Other times, a small change - a new class, a different workout time, or simply making better use of the recovery options available to you - can help you get moving again.

At Four Lakes Athletic Club, October is a great opportunity to refresh your routine without starting over.

Take a Look at Your September Routine

Before you make any changes, ask yourself:

  • How consistently did I work out?

  • Did I enjoy the workouts I was doing?

  • Did I challenge myself enough?

  • Did I make time for recovery?

  • Did I try different types of exercise?

  • Did I take advantage of the amenities included with my membership?

  • What is one thing I want to do more consistently in October?

Your answers can help you decide whether October calls for a complete change - or simply a little adjustment.

Tease Your Routine With Something New

One of the easiest ways to add variety to your fitness routine is to try a group fitness class.

If you usually spend your workouts on the fitness floor, October could be the month you step into a class. If you're already a group fitness regular, consider trying something outside your usual rotation.

Our October Group Fitness Schedule brings new class times and some lineup changes, giving you even more opportunities to find a workout that fits your schedule and your goals.

And we're especially excited to welcome Jamie back to Monday nights for Boot 'N Burn - a high-energy combination of strength, cardio bursts, and functional movement.

From strength and cardio to Pilates, cycling, yoga, barre, step, and much more, variety can help keep your workouts interesting while challenging your body in different ways.

Check the FLAC app for the October schedule and start planning your classes now.

Don't Forget About Recovery

Fitness isn't just about how hard you work. Recovery matters, too.

If the sauna isn't already part of your routine, October is a great time to start incorporating it into your FLAC visits.

After your workout, give yourself a little extra time to slow down, relax, and enjoy the dry sauna in our locker rooms. Think of it as another opportunity to make your visit about more than simply checking a workout off your list.

You don't always have to add more to your routine. Sometimes the smarter move is creating space to recover from what you're already doing.

Your October Routine Doesn't Have to Be Complicated

Maybe your October goal is:

Add one group fitness class each week.

Try a class you've never taken before.

Get back to a consistent strength routine.

Add a little more cardio.

Make recovery part of your weekly routine.

Try a new workout time.

Or simply show up more consistently.

Small changes can make a big difference when you actually stick with them.

And remember: you don't have to wait for January to make a change.

October is another opportunity to reset, refocus, and keep moving forward.

Your October Check-In

Before the month begins, finish this sentence:

In October, I am going to ____________ for my fitness routine.

Maybe you're changing something. Maybe you're sticking with what works. Maybe you're doing a little bit of both.

Whatever your answer, make it realistic, make it yours, and then put it on your calendar.

Your next month starts with your next visit to FLAC.
