Finish Strong: Week 4 of the 4 Weeks to a Fitter You Challenge

Four weeks. Four challenges. One stronger you.

We’ve stepped, planked, wall squatted, and now it’s time to finish the 4 Weeks to a Fitter You Challenge with one final movement: push-ups!

Whether you’ve been participating since Week 1 or are just joining us for the final challenge, this is your opportunity to build strength, establish healthy habits, and finish the month feeling accomplished. At Four Lakes Athletic Club, we believe fitness is about progress, not perfection. Every repetition counts, every modification is an opportunity to meet yourself where you are, and every small commitment can help build a stronger foundation for long-term success.

Week 4 Challenge: 10 Push-Ups a Day

Your final challenge is simple: complete 10 push-ups each day!

Push-ups are a classic bodyweight exercise that helps build upper-body strength while engaging your core. They primarily target the chest, shoulders, and triceps, with your abdominal muscles working to help stabilize your body throughout the movement.

The best part? You don't need fancy equipment or a dedicated workout space. Choose the variation that works for your current fitness level and get moving!

Choose Your Push-Up Variation

1. Traditional Floor Push-Up

The classic push-up is a great way to challenge your upper-body strength and core stability.

  • Start in a high plank position with your hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.

  • Keep your body in a straight line from head to heels.

  • Bend your elbows to lower your chest toward the floor.

  • Press through your hands to return to the starting position.

  • Keep your core engaged and avoid letting your hips sag.

2. Modified Floor Push-Up

Build strength with a little less resistance while maintaining the same fundamental movement.

  • Start on the floor with your hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.

  • Keep your knees on the ground and your body aligned from your head to your knees.

  • Bend your elbows to lower your chest toward the floor.

  • Press through your hands to return to the starting position.

  • Keep your core engaged and move with control.

3. Standing Countertop or Desk Push-Up

Prefer to stay on your feet? This elevated variation is an accessible way to practice push-ups and develop strength.

  • Stand facing a sturdy countertop or desk and place your hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.

  • Step your feet back so your body forms a straight line from head to heels.

  • Bend your elbows and bring your chest toward the surface.

  • Press through your hands to return to the starting position.

  • Keep your body aligned and use a stable surface that will not slide or tip.

Your goal is 10 repetitions a day, not 10 perfect repetitions of the hardest variation. Choose the version that allows you to maintain good form. You can also break your 10 repetitions into smaller sets throughout the day.

Why Push-Ups Deserve a Place in Your Routine

Push-ups are more than a challenge to check off your list. When performed consistently with proper technique, they can help you:

  • Build upper-body strength: Strengthen your chest, shoulders, and triceps.

  • Improve core stability: Practice keeping your torso controlled and aligned.

  • Develop muscular endurance: Work toward completing more repetitions with good form over time.

  • Build consistency: Turn a manageable daily goal into a lasting fitness habit.

  • Train anywhere: Use your body weight without needing a gym full of equipment.

As always, listen to your body. Stop if you experience pain, and choose a variation that feels appropriate for your current ability.

Don't Forget the Other Three Weeks!

Just because we’ve reached the final week doesn't mean the earlier challenges are over! Keep building on your progress for the rest of the month by continuing all four daily challenges together.

  • Week 1: Steps - Aim for 10,000 steps each day.

  • Week 2: Planks - Complete three 30-second planks daily, resting 30 seconds between holds.

  • Week 3: Wall Squats - Complete three 30-second wall squats daily, resting 30 seconds between holds.

  • Week 4: Push-Ups - Complete 10 push-ups daily using the variation that works for you.

The goal is to create a routine that grows with you. Walking supports daily movement, planks challenge core stability, wall squats build lower-body endurance, and push-ups add an upper-body strength component. Together, these simple challenges encourage a more well-rounded approach to staying active.

You don't have to do everything at once. Spread your challenges throughout the day, adjust as needed, and focus on showing up consistently.
