Fall Fitness Check-In: Is Your Routine Ready for the ‘Burr’ Months?
The official start of fall is here, which means it’s time for a quick fitness check-in.
As the days get shorter and temperatures start to drop, your routine can easily change. Outdoor walks become less frequent, and workouts get harder to fit in, then before you know it, you’re deep in the “burr months” with no motivation. So, ask yourself: Do you have a fitness routine in place for the colder months?
If the answer is “not quite,” this is the perfect time to reset your routine and take full advantage of everything your Four Lakes Athletic Club membership has to offer.
Your Indoor Fitness Routine Starts Here
One of the biggest advantages of belonging to an indoor athletic club in Southeastern Wisconsin is having a place to stay active regardless of what is happening outside.
Cold temperatures, snow, rain, wind and shorter daylight hours don't have to derail your fitness goals. Instead of waiting for the weather to cooperate, you can simply walk through the doors at FLAC and get moving.
Indoor fitness makes it easier to build consistency - and consistency is one of the most important pieces of a sustainable fitness routine!
Whether you have 20 minutes or two hours, there are plenty of ways to make your visit count.
Mix Up Your Workouts
A good fitness routine doesn't have to mean doing the same workout every time you visit.
Your FLAC membership gives you access to a variety of ways to move, train, and challenge yourself.
Strength & Cardio
Build strength and improve cardiovascular fitness with access to cardio equipment, circuit training, Hammer Strength equipment, free weights, and functional training areas.
New to FLAC and not sure what to do when you walk into the fitness center? That's okay. Your membership includes a Complimentary New Member Assessment, where you can meet one-on-one with a fitness professional to discuss your goals, current fitness level and the programs that may be a good fit for you.
Group Fitness
If you thrive with structure, energy and a little accountability, add group fitness to your weekly routine.
From strength and cardio-focused workouts to cycling, Pilates, yoga, Barre Fusion, Bootcamp, Kickboxing, Silver Sneakers and more, group fitness can help keep your workouts interesting and give you a reason to show up consistently.
Check the website for the months group fitness schedule & check the FLAC app for the current daily class schedule and reserve your spot.
Indoor Tennis
Don't put your racquet away just because summer is over.
FLAC's 6 indoor tennis courts make it possible to play year-round. Whether you're an experienced player, getting back into the game or completely new to tennis, you can book court time, participate in programming, or work with one of our tennis professionals.
Indoor tennis is another great way to add variety, movement, and a little friendly competition to your weekly routine.
Indoor Track
Looking for a simple way to build more movement into your day?
Take advantage of our indoor track. Twelve laps equal one mile, giving you an easy option for walking, jogging, or adding extra cardio before or after your workout.
And because it's indoors, you don't have to worry about icy sidewalks, freezing temperatures, or a dark winter evening.
Recovery & Mobility
Your fitness routine isn't just about pushing harder.
The colder months are also a great time to prioritize mobility, stretching, and recovery. Give your body time to move well, recover, and prepare for your next workout.
And don't forget to take advantage of FLAC's dry sauna as part of your post-workout routine!
Make Your Routine Work for Your Life
The best fitness routine is one you can actually stick with.
That might mean strength training three days a week. It could mean attending two group fitness classes, playing tennis on the weekend, and walking the indoor track once a week. Maybe your routine includes a morning workout while your kids are in Kids Club.
There isn't one perfect routine.
The goal is to find a combination of activities that keeps you moving, fits your schedule, and gives you something to look forward to.
Need a Little Extra Motivation?
Sometimes having a plan is the easy part - sticking with it is where the challenge comes in. Personal Training can provide the motivation, accountability, and guidance you need to stay on track.
Work one-on-one with a FLAC personal trainer to build a workout plan around your goals, learn proper technique, challenge yourself safely, and have someone in your corner holding you accountable. Whether you're new to fitness, working toward a specific goal, or simply looking for a fresh approach to your routine, Personal Training can help you make the most of your time at FLAC.
Don't Forget About The FLAC App
The FLAC app can make staying consistent even easier.
Use the app to:
View the current daily group fitness schedule
Register or unregister for classes
See your personal class schedule
Keep track of upcoming registrations
Reserve Kids Club childcare
Stay connected to your FLAC membership
Before heading to the club, check the app for the most up-to-date schedule, and make your plan for the day.
A little planning can go a long way toward turning “I should work out today” into “I'm going to FLAC today.”
The ‘Burr Months’ Are Here. Are You Ready?
Fall is a great time to establish your routine before winter arrives.
Don't wait until the first major snowstorm to figure out how you're going to stay active. Take a look at your current routine and ask yourself:
Am I getting enough strength training?
Am I getting enough cardiovascular activity?
Am I doing something I actually enjoy?
Am I taking advantage of the programs and amenities included with my membership?
Do I have a plan for staying active when outdoor workouts aren't practical?
If there are gaps, fill them.
Try a new group fitness class. Walk a few miles on the indoor track. Pick up a racquet. Schedule your New Member Assessment or connect with a personal trainer. Build in recovery time. Bring a friend. Make FLAC part of your weekly routine.
The colder months don't have to mean less movement.
They can be the season you build your strongest routine yet.
